Rohit ahead of 5th Ind-Eng Test: ‘Don’t know what Bazball means’

NEW DELHI: It’s been one of the most talked about term in Test cricket over the past two years, but Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday conceded he isn’t aware of what the term Bazball means.
Having already clinched the series against England going into the final Test in Dharamsala, Rohit said, “Honestly don’t know what Bazball means. Whether it is to strike, I don’t know what this terms means.”
The Indian skipper unloaded a soft jibe when he was asked what he made of Ben Duckett’s “we said should take some credit” for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s power-packed ton in Rajkot. Rohit would hit back at the comments by saying, “There was this guy called Rishabh Pant, probably Duckett hasn’t seen him bat.”
However, the 36-year-old went on to acknowledge that the visitors England have played better cricket than their last tour to India in 2021, when they were beaten 3-1 in four-match series. “They played better cricket when they were here in the last series. Credit to two (Three) of the batters who scored a ton here,” he would say.
Despite having lost the series before the final Test, England have had notable positives from the tour. The likes of Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett and Joe Root have scored tons in the series whereas Zack Crawley has also chipped in with contributions at the top of the order.
In the wickets tally, Tom Hartley – having made his debut in the first Test – who sits at the top with 20 scalps, more than Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja (17). Shoaib Bashir has also impressed with 12 scalps from just the two outings, including a fifer he snapped in the Ranchi Test.
After a weeklong break, India and England meet again for the fifth Test in Dharamsala starting Thursday.
