Police officials informed Kashmir Reader that around 11 pm Wednesday night, they received a call regarding technical issues with a tourist’s vehicle on the old Srinagar-Jammu highway. A team from the Pampore Police Station immediately reached the spot and found tourists who had come from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, to Kashmir and were on their way back home. The group included 4 children, one minor, 3 females, and 4 males, all shivering in the cold. The police rescued them, arranged a safer place for the night, and provided food.
Today, they have fixed their vehicle and are now on their way home.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Joly, a female tourist, said, “Our vehicle broke down as we were heading home, and the Kashmir police came to our aid. When our car had a breakdown, two locals at the scene called the police, who promptly arrived, rescued us, arranged for our vehicle, and even provided arrangements for food and drink for the night. We are comfortably staying here for the night.”
She added, “We had complete trust; this is Kashmir, someone will come to help. The people of Kashmir help everyone, and then the police arrived. They helped us; we had small children with us, and it was very cold here. We were very worried about where to go at night with the children. We are very thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir police; they have helped us a lot.”
Manooj, a tourist, said, “We were returning home after enjoying Kashmir yesterday night when our vehicle broke down in Pampore area. We were in distress with our 5 minor children, including a 4-month-old daughter, and it was cold. The Jammu Kashmir police arrived at the spot, provided significant help, took us in, arranged accommodation for the night. We are thankful for the assistance from both the Jammu Kashmir police and the locals of Pampore.”
Another tourist Neeraj said, “Our vehicle broke down at night, and people came forward to help. They informed the local police, and we were scared as it was extremely cold with temperatures below freezing. There is a lot of love and warmth in Kashmir.”
Sumit, another tourist, expressed gratitude, stating, “We were headed to Jammu at night when our vehicle’s axle broke down in Pampore. We faced a lot of trouble, and some people offered us to stay at their house for the night. They then informed the police, who arrived, tried to fix the vehicle, arranged for a mechanic, but since it was late night, no mechanic was available. Then the police took us in their vehicle, arranged accommodation for the night, and provided food.”
The police brought a crane and lifted our vehicle from where it broke down to the place where our accommodation was arranged. They ensured all the necessary arrangements were made, and this morning, the police called a mechanic to fix our car. We are very thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir police for their assistance.
