Pampore: Pampore police on Tuesday detained five individuals involved in gambling in the Saffron Town area of Police District Awantipora, confiscating Rs 4000 in stake money.
Acting on specific information about illicit gambling activities, a police team from the Pampore police station, led by SHO Jazib Mohammad Bhat and supervised by Sub Division Police Officer (SDPO) Krishan Rattan, conducted a raid on the gambling spot, resulting in the arrest of five individuals.
The apprehended gamblers were identified as Firdous Ahmad Wani, Abdul Majeed Wani, Ghulam Mohammad Wani, Mohammad Amin Wani, and Aqib Ahmad Dar, according to police sources shared with Kashmir Reader. Stake money amounting to Rs 4000 and playing cards were seized from the individuals, who are currently in police custody.
A case under FIR Number 130/2023 has been registered at the Pampore police station, marking the initiation of further investigation.
Police authorities underscored that those involved in criminal activities will face legal consequences and urged community members to report any criminal incidents in their neighborhoods to local police units. In response to the police action, locals extended congratulations to the Pampore police, expressing solidarity and asserting their support for such endeavors.
