Lack of streetlights raises safety concerns for Hajin residents

Bandipora: The absence of streetlights has emerged as a significant concern for the inner roads of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Local residents have expressed their worries regarding the lack of adequate street lighting, which poses considerable challenges, especially during the evening hours.
According to Farooq Ahmad, a resident, the stretch from Khos Mohalla to Bon Mohalla remains engulfed in darkness due to the absence of street lights. This lack of illumination not only inconveniences pedestrians but also poses risks to both pedestrians and motorists.
“We face a lot of hardships because of the non-availability of streetlights in the evening. It is particularly unsafe for children and women to walk on these roads,” he said. Many residents resort to using mobile phones as makeshift torches while navigating these poorly lit streets, further highlighting the urgent need for street lighting in the area.
Expressing concern, residents have appealed to the Municipal Committee Hajin to address this issue promptly by installing streetlights.
In response to these concerns, Firdous Ahmad, Executive Officer of MC Hajin, assured residents that steps are being taken to rectify the situation. “We will be installing streetlights in these areas very soon to ensure the safety and convenience of the local residents,” he affirmed.
