Police arrest extortionist in Baramulla

Baramulla: Police arrested an extortionist for demanding money for regulatory authorities in order to carry out illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla.
“Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from one person Muneer Ahmad Bala son of Gh Mohammad Bala resident of Stadium Colony Baramulla stating therein that one person namely Nadeem Ahmad Mir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Janbazpora Baramulla has approached him to pay protection money for regulatory authorities in order to facilitate illegal extraction/transportation of Sand in Chakloo Baramulla and has deceitfully received some money from the complainant and was demanding more money for carrying out illegal extraction of minerals in the area,” police said in a statement.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was initiated.
On receipt of this information, a police team led by SHO PS Baramulla swung into action and arrested the said accused person involved in the commission of crime. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
“Police reiterates its commitment to upholding the law and protecting the rights of all citizens. Such criminal activities aimed at exploiting vulnerable individuals and their families for personal gain will not be tolerated,” the statement said, adding, “Police urge the public to remain vigilant and if any person demands bribe for any police related matter, general public can directly complaint to SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure-IPS on his mobile number- 7051000999.”
