VC SKUAST-K for adopting lifestyle synchronous with nature

SRINAGAR: Division of Environmental Sciences, Sher-e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) celebrated World Environment Day, on Monday.
The multipronged programme was kickstarted by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai. He highlighted the genesis and significance of the Day, emphasized on transitioning from throwaway culture to a circular economy and stressed on practicing a lifestyle that is synchronous with nature.
Segregation of waste at source, conversion of biodegradable waste into compost for earning riches, utilization of heritage pottery and biodegradable bags can help in beating plastic pollution, he enunciated.
On the occasion, HoD Environmental Sciences, Faculty members and students of SKUAST-K took a pledge to keep the environment clean. Later, the Vice Chancellor flagged off the team for cleaning the interiors of Dal Lake which is the main source of tourist attraction.
The volunteers of the Division of Environmental Sciences, SKUAST-K during the cleanliness drive created awareness among Dal dwellers regarding ‘Beating Plastic Pollution’. Volunteers also created awareness in busy markets and tourist spots of the city and distributed jute bags among tourists and shoppers.
