Agri Deptt endeavouring for sustainable agriculture economy: Chowdhury Iqbal

Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal on Thursday visited vegetable cluster Maloora of Srinagar district and took stock of the agriculture activities in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that under holistic agriculture development programme department is endeavouring for vertical expansion of vegetable cultivation and in this direction various initiatives had already been taken from January this year. He said the establishment of hi tech polyhouses in all the districts of the valley is one such initiative.
Director Agriculture said that for early marketing season of fresh vegetables department and the concerned farmers are working in a coordinated manner. He said the trails of different vegetables crops laid at different vegetable clusters are showing encouraging results. He said that under the supervision of financial commissioner (additional chief secretary) agriculture production and farmers’ welfare department, the department is working on a long term plane of socio- economic development of farming community of the region and a sustainable agriculture based economy.
Director Agriculture was accompanied by Deputy Director Planning Mohammad Younis Chowdhury and some other officers of the department.
Later on, Director Agriculture inaugurated a one-day training programme for farmers aimed at the strengthen agriculture marketing under holistic agriculture development programme at agriculture complex Lalmandi and held detailed interactive session with the participants of the programme.
