Two notorious drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Pampore: Police

PAMPORE: Jammu & Kashmir Police booked two notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Saffron Town Pampore area of south Kashmir’s police district Awantipora on Monday.

“Pampore police in continuing its action against drug peddlers booked two notorious drug peddlers under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority”, police said.

The duo drug peddlers have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh @Patanjali Tiger son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, resident of Tulbagh Pampore and Javaid Ahmad Dar @ Brichi son of Mohammad Akram Dar resident of Meej Pampore, a police official said, adding that the duo was actively involved in the many NDPS cases in police station Pampore.

He said despite their involvement in many FIRs, the duo was promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth. “The duo was motivating the youth for consumption of the drugs thus responsible for spreading drug menace in society,” SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.

Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the competent authority, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under Prevention of illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.

The officer once again requested the community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, he said.
