Illicit timber seized in Sopore, 3 arrested: Police

Baramulla: Police in Sopore have seized illicit timber by arresting three accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

A police party led by SHO Police Station Dangiwacha along with officials of Forest Department at a checkpoint established at Batpora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05-3642 with three persons on board, police said in a statement. “During checking of the vehicle, 10Cft of illicit timber was seized. The accused persons involved in the commission of crime were also arrested on spot who have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, Azhar Ahmad Parra son of Ghulam Mohi-u-din Parra and Abdul Latief Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir, all the residents of Aadipora Sopore,” it said.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 06/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha & investigation has been taken up, police said, adding that the drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold.
