Forage Garden thrown open at AICRP-FC Srinagar Centre

Srinagar: The Forage Garden of Kharif crops, established by AICRP-FCU Srinagar Centre at DARS Rangreth, Srinagar, was today thrown open by Director Extension and Director Research of SKUAST-K during a function held at the Station. The garden boasts a collection of Kharif Fodder crops suitable for cultivation in temperate conditions of Kashmir viz Fodder Maize, Sorghum, Pearl Millet, Ricebean, Bajra, Cowpea etc. On the advice of Dy. Director General (CS) of ICAR, Dr. A. K. Roy, Project Coordinator, AICRP-FCU has mandated establishment of Forage Garden at every AICRP-FC Centre during Kharif and Rabi Seasons to showcase variety of fodder crops and resources available to the farmers.
Dr. D. M. Makhdoomi, Director Extension of the University lauded the efforts of Dr. N. S. Khuroo, OIC (AICRP-FC Srinagar) and Dr. Zahida Rashid, Agronomist for establishing a beautiful garden with varied collection of fodder crops. Director Research, Dr. Sarfaraz A. Wani was also appreciative of this venture and congratulated Dr. A. K. Roy and Dr. Rajiv Agrawal of AICRP-FCU Jhansi on the endeavour. He also praised the leadership of Dr. Z. A. Dar, Professor I/c, DARS Rangreth.
On the occasion, around 40 farmers from District Budgam and Srinagar were provided first hand knowledge regarding prospects and cultivation of all types of fodder crops together with the nutritional benefits associated with different kinds of grasses.
