PAMPORE: World Breastfeeding Week was observed at Sub district hospital Pampore under the Chairpersonship of Block Medical Officer Pampore Dr Asima Nazir.
RMO SDH Pampore Dr Mohammad Ashraf, Child Specialist SDH Pampore Dr Rehana Wani, Asha workers and other paramedical staff were present on the occasion.
A pledge was also taken by all HealthCare workers including Asha worker’s regarding Breastfeeding.
The pledge was administered by health official Nasir Ahmad.
The Breastfeeding programmes were also held in other health centres of the health block Pampore.
The week is celebrated every year from 1st August to August 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.
Child Specialist SDH Pampore Dr Rehana Wani gave a detailed lecture highlighting the importance of Breastfeeding in Children particularly during first hour of delivery and exclusive breastfeeding upto 6 months.
Block Medical Officer Pampore Dr Asima Nazir said that different activities related to Breastfeeding such as Sensitization of staff, MAA meetings, conducting HBNCs and HBYCs, Sensitization during immunization sessions,VHNDs etc will be carried out during this week.
” The breastfeeding Week is observed from 1st for seven days, in this context a pledge was taken that we will ensure breastfeeding as much as possible,” BMO SDH Pampore, DrAsima Nazir told Kashmir Reader, adding that Asha’s and supporting staff motivate antenatal patients during 9 months of gynaecology check ups for breastfeeding.
She added that after delivery a mother needs to breastfeed her new baby within the first hour.
She added that their staff educate mothers for breastfeeding within the first hour after delivery.
