Srinagar: Anti Tobacco Rally was organized by NSS Wing of Vishwa Bharati College Srinagar on 31 May 2022. The programme was organized by NSS Program Officer Prof. Ronika Yousuf. The rally had more than 200 participants including 50 teaching, non- teaching staff and 150 college students.
The event started with the inauguration function in the college garden at 12:00 o’clock with Principal Prof. Dr. Syed Javed Iqbal Kamili. Anti Tobacco Oath was administered by all the NSS Volunteers and the staff present there. After the inauguration program Prof. Dr. Syed Javed Iqbal Kamili appreciated the Organizer and NSS Volunteers for their initiatives for this noble cause and later the rally was flagged off from the college gate by the principal of the college.
Education of the public and the street vendors was done by the students and NSS programme Officer. The students and faculty raised slogans about ill effects of tobacco in various forms like bidi, cigarette, Jajeer (Kashmiri traditional hookah) and smokeless tobacco. Pamphlets were distributed among the public. Local religious places were also involved in this awareness rally. Shopkeepers were requested to stop selling of Tobacco products in their shops.
At the end of the event Prof. Asifa Qadri (Dept. of Zoology), prof. Muneera Zaffer (Dept. of Kashmiri) spoke on the occasion and distributed the refreshment among students.
The Programme was concluded by Vote of Thanks given by Prof. Ronika Yousuf NSS Programme Officer.
