Patalbagh Pampore farmers stage protest, demand electricity for pump station

PAMPORE: Anguished with unavailability of electricity farmers in Organic village Patalbagh Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district staged a protest against PDD.
A number of farmers assembled from organic village Patalbagh Pampore and staged a protest in there farming land. They raised slogans for doing justice with them.
Taking to Kashmir Reader farmers told that this is peak soving season for paddy nurseries.
“We the farmers of Patalbagh are in state of distrus due to non availability of irrigational water to prepare nurseries for paddy”’ , a local, a member of Kissan Advisory Board Irshad Ahmad Dar told Kashmir Reader, adding that they get water for irrigation from pumping station Patalbagh the operation of which has been hampered due to frequent power outages.
He added that the seeds have almost sprouted and are ready for sowing.
“Due to non availability of water the land is yet to be irrigated and the seeds for lying unsowed at our houses. If we do not get water in a couple of days the seeds may spoil and we will miss the season”’, he said.
He appealed LG J&K UT for providing them four hours electricity during day time on priority basis so that pump station Patalbagh runs and they can get water for irrigation.
He told Kashmir Reader that if government is serious to increase income of farmers then they should address to there grievances at an earliest. He said that majority of people in organic village Patalbagh are formers and they derive there livelihood from agriculture. “Spoiling of seeds will result in loss to formers and in no way can they double there income”, he said.
