Srinagar: A 62-year-old man was hacked to death by his sons in Srinagar’s Ellahi Bagh area, police said on Saturday.
On April 7, 2022, an unidentified body was lying in Dal Lake near Akhoon Mohalla, Foreshore road and the deceased was identified as Khurshid Ahamd Tota, son of Ghulam Nabi Tota of Elahibagh, Soura, a police official said.
It said the preliminary medical report revealed marks on neck and it came into light that the deceased has been murdered by unknown persons who then threw the body into Dal Lake.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 34/2022 under section 302, 120 B IPC, 201 IPC was registered in Police Station Nigeen and investigation was taken up.
According to police, through circumstantial evidence, oral witnesses, CCTVs and technical analysis, it came to conclusion that the deceased was killed by his family members at their home on April 5 evening after some altercation and the body was kept at home for a day.
On April 6 evening, the body was shifted in an I-20 vehicle and thrown into the Lake to conceal the crime, police said.
The two sons of the deceased have been arrested and the vehicle seized while further investigation is underway. Police said more arrests will follow.
