How Muslim Youth Excelled In Both Religion And Modern Science
When we examine our rich Islamic heritage, we are shocked to see how Muslim youngsters have excelled in both religion and modern science. How they memorised the entire Qur’an with heart even before six years of age. These days, children need to know how to use mobile phones. They are not to blame because their parents are undervaluing their upbringing and nutrition. The Ummah is waiting for you to reach the pinnacle of success since Muslims were the experts in every industry.

Young people are the creation of the all-powerful Allah, possessing unique traits, skills, and abilities, but most importantly, they are courageous, energetic, and strong. Any country’s greatest asset is its youth, whose numbers are growing daily. However, if Allah abandons this young person with exceptional abilities and traits who strayed from the road that Allah had established for their acceptance, the nation would perish. Allah declares, “I love the repentance of youth more than the repentance of an old man.” Do you know why? Because a young person has more options and vigour than an elderly man. The elderly man is aware that he has run out of time and must immediately get ready for the Hereafter. When a young person follows the path dictated by Allah (SWT), he becomes close to his Lord.
When we consider the importance of youth and their character in Islamic history, we are truly taken aback by the fact that we have forgotten our rich past. We now assert that we do not have time since it has vanished. Both they and we had twenty-four hours. Do we have more vital tasks than they did? They had friends, family, studies, and personal qualities. The truth is that we are giving importance to things that do not need to be important, as we are becoming nothing more than puppets due to technological advancements. Oh, young people of this Ummah, you must first fulfil the duties that your Lord has given you. Young people have more time to enjoy life than to fulfil their responsibilities. These days, our young people are preoccupied with social media—Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other platforms—which should not be a part of daily life.

The Ummah is waiting for you to reach the pinnacle of success since Muslims were the experts in every industry. Resurrect Muslim history, wherein Muslims were not just recipients but also masters like Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Al-Khawarizmi, Al-Zahrawi, Al-Zarqali, and others—for Allah’s sake rather than fame. Contribute together to the Ummah in order to become the masters. Since we have a limited amount of time to give and are responsible for every second, you do not need to kill time. We have a certain objective: to follow Allah’s will; we are not free. Allah created us with a certain purpose. Our Lord revealed the Qur’an, a sacred book that contains laws pertaining to every facet of life. We do not need to cross the bounds that our Lord has already established for us, because doing so would make us deviants.
We are not the servants of this Western society that has always led us astray, but rather of the all-powerful Allah. We must take responsibility for our duties and establish priorities based on Allah’s (SWT) decisions rather than our own desires. Since we are ashraf-ul-makhluqat—the crown of all creatures—we must obey the will of Allah, who created us. The Qur’an is a noble text that covers every facet of life, from personal hygiene to the country’s political structure. Therefore, how can we claim to be free when we will be held accountable for every action on the Day of Judgment? We take particular pride in being the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the final messenger of Allah (SWT).
He prays for us every single day. Oh, young people of this nation, what did our dear Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) expect of us? Why have we forgotten all of his expectations? He cried out for us day and night. On the Day of Judgment, we must confront this admirable figure, the beloved Prophet (PBUH)—so how will we be able to meet him? Would he not ask us, “Are you the ones I prayed for?”
Hazrat Safwaan bin Sulaim narrates that Rasool Allah (PBUH) was asked: “Can a believer be a coward?” He said, “Yes, he can be a coward.” Then it was asked: “Can a believer be a miser?” He replied, “Yes, he can be a miser.” It was then asked: “Can a believer be a liar?” He replied, “No, a believer cannot be a liar.” (Imam Malik, Mishkaat, Sahih Muslim)
On the Day of Judgment, when all will cry ‘nafsi, nafsi’ (‘myself, myself’), only Rasool Allah (PBUH) will say ‘ummati, ummati, ummati’ (‘my Ummah, my Ummah, my Ummah’). So, every time you think of going against a Sunnah, remember Rasool Allah’s (PBUH) intercession: ‘ummati, ummati, ummati’—my Ummah.
Indeed, we are not free. How much Rasool Allah (PBUH) prayed for the Ummah is evident from the following:
Aisha bint Abu Bakr (RA) reported: When I saw the Prophet (PBUH) with a cheerful face, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah for me.” The Prophet said, “O Allah, forgive Aisha for her past and future sins, in secret and in public.” Aisha laughed so much that her head fell from his lap. The Prophet said to her, “Does my supplication make you happy?” Aisha said, “Why would your supplication not make me happy?” The Prophet said, “By Allah, it is my supplication for my Ummah in every prayer.” (Ṣaḥīḥ ibn Ḥibbān)
In short, the youth are the real foundation of the nation, representing a strong link between an illustrious past and a promising future. This makes it important to understand how significant it is to remain connected to the rich history and heritage, with the objective that the legacy is carried forward, which will in turn lead the nation towards greater progress.
