Shunglipora Khag lolas demand culvert for keeping stream on course

BUDGAM: The locals and transporters from the various villages of the Khag Tehsil at Central Kashmir’s Budgam district demand that the government construct a bridge or culvert upon the Shunglipora main road as the stretch remains submerged in water after the onset of spring after snow starts melting and frequent rains .
Tariq Ahmad Malik, one of the local resident from the Shunglipora village told the Kashmir Reader that there is a small stream in the village which originates from hills, when the snow starts melting it spills on its course and submerges the road and nearby village area before ending up in stream.
“There should have been sufficient passage in the shape of a bridge or culvert on this road so that water could pass smoothly, not impeding the traffic and the pedestrian flow.
Mohammad Lateef, another local resident told the Kashmir Reader that in summer season the problem get as aggravated with rains in upper reaches turning this road into a stream making it difficult for people and animals to cross also resulting in many accidents
He added that it is the right time the government carte a culvert at this spot so that transporters as well as lolas will not face this problem in summers.
An official from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department told the Kashmir Reader that he will look into the matter and necessary steps will be taken regarding the demand of the people.
