Awantipora: The 27th International Conference ofInternational Academy of Physical Sciences (CONIAPS XXVII) on the theme ‘Frontiers in Physics’ being organized by the Department of Physics, Islamic University Science and Technology, in collaboration with Department Physics, University of Kashmir, and International Academy of Physical Sciences (IAPS) Prayagraj started here on Tuesday and will continue till Thursday. CONIAPS XXVII is being organized online at 25 reputed Universities/Institutes across India on different topics/themes simultaneously. The focus of the conference is on recent research in the frontline research areas of physics like Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Computation, Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Cosmology etc.with emphasis on emerging trends, besides,the opportunities for research and development yet to be exploited. The main goal of the conference is to discuss the advancement in the latest research developments.
While addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor IUST Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo opined that physics is a fundamental science that may help people comprehend things at a fundamental level and solve a variety of societal problems because it is applicable to every aspect of life. He cited climate change as an example of a major challenge where in the subject of physics can come handy. Prof. Romshoo said that CONIAPS XXVII on the theme of “Frontiers in Physics”, will bring together the most recent advances in global research on a single platform and may suggest some potential solutions in this direction. “While Covid has undoubtedly brought obstacles over the last year and a half, it has also made communication significantly easier”, he added.
Registrar IUST Prof. NaseerIqbal underlined that physics is a foundational subject that adds to everyday knowledge, but that a number of issues remain unsolved. “Understanding of dark matter, for example, is a major unsolved subject in the field of Astrophysics that still requires earnest and illustrious efforts for clarity” he added. Vice President IAPS Prof. P. K. Bajpai gave an overview of the organizational history, outreach, and current activities. He mentioned that Young Scientist awards are given out by the academy to acknowledge and support the efforts of young researchers, and there have been 74 recipients so far. Convener of CONIAPS XXVII Prof. Nisar Ahmad expressed gratitude to IUST authorities for financial support, as well as Prof. Bajpai for his continued assistance in arranging the CONIAPS XXVII. Earlier, HOD Physics, Kashmir University Prof. Basharat A. Want and HOD Physics, IUST Dr. Niyaz Ahmad welcomed all the participants of the conference.
