FoA SKUAST Wadura holds training on Weather Based Decision Support System for Crop Risk Management

Srinagar: Faculty of Agriculture, SK University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir, Wadura begins seven-days offline National Training on “Weather Based Decision Support System for Crop Risk Management” under the guidance of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-J&K.
The programme is organized by the university, under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project. Prof. A. H. Hakeem, Dean FoA was the chief guest and Dr. M.L. Khicher, Prof. & Head, Agricultural Meteorology, CCS, HAU, Hisar, Haryana was the guest of honour for the event. In the training program, more than 70 PG students from various divisions have been registered. The course content and the selection of subject matter experts have been designed for deliberations on various topics related to weather based decision support system for crop risk management.
During the inaugural address, Dean FoA emphasised on importance of agro-meteorology in achieving food security and sustainable development goals. He also enlightened participants on need of weather and climate knowledge and suggested to bring out the farmers friendly and climate smart technologies. Dr. M.L. Khicher, Prof. & Head, Agricultural Meteorology, CCS, HAU, Hisar, in his address appreciated the efforts of coordinators for organizing this important training program and emphasised the need for managing the climate risks affecting the agriculture production for local farmers through advancement of agro-advisory & mobile based weather apps.
The inaugural session was attended by students, faculty members and heads of the divisions. Dr. Raihana H. Kanth, Course Director, welcomed the guests and participants of the program. Dr. S. Sheraz Mahdi, Course Co-Coordinator briefed the august gathering about the training program and inaugural function was ended with vote of thanks to Chair by Dr. Lal Singh, Course Co-coordinator of the training program.
