SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to curb illegal mining and protect natural resources, Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted multiple enforcement drives in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts, seizing vehicles, machinery, and taking legal action against violators.
In Baramulla, police at Police Station Sheeri intercepted six dumpers involved in illegal transportation of mining material. The vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK05M-8085, JK05M-2847, JK05K-3161, JK05K-4926, JK05K-9911, and JK01AQ-6609, were found transporting minerals in violation of norms. The matter was reported to the Department of Geology & Mining, which imposed a fine of ₹98,949 on the violators, reaffirming police’s commitment to environmental protection. Additionally, police seized machinery used for illegal sand extraction in Chakloo, including a tractor (Chassis No. CH-MMNNAB01471), sand suction motor, water pump, boat motor, and other equipment. The culprits, residents of Chakloo, face further legal proceedings.
Similarly, in Ganderbal, police intercepted six trucks transporting sand without valid authorization within the jurisdiction of Police Station Sonamarg. The illegal activity was verified by the Geology & Mining Department, which imposed fines on the offending trucks, reinforcing efforts to prevent environmental damage caused by unauthorized mining.
Police emphasize that such enforcement drives will continue across districts and pledge strict action against all violators. They urge the public to report illegal mining activities to authorities, ensuring swift legal intervention to safeguard ecological balance and natural resources.
