Youth injured in leopard attack in Tangmarg

Tangmarg: Day after a couple was injured by a black bear in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a youth was injured in a leopard attack in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Showqat Ahmad Khatana, son of Jalal ud din Khatana of Qazipora village of Tangmarg, was attacked by a leopard outside his home on Thursday evening. The family members and other people reached the spot and chased the beast away. They shifted the injured to the nearby sub district hospital (SDH) Tangmarg for treatment.
Locals said that wild beasts including leopards and black bears have been roaming in human habitations for a long time and have also killed scores of domestic animals in the area.
Wildlife officials said that Qazipora village is very close to the forest range Gulmarg and wild beasts venture into residential areas in search of food. They appealed to people to be alert mostly in the morning, evening, and night hours.
