Krunchoo villagers seek shifting electric poles for carrying macadamisation

Pampore: Residents of Krunchoo village in Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district demand authorities of Power Development Department (PDD) for shifting electric poles from a road passing through the village.
The villagers of the area have appealed Department Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary and Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din look into the matter
The residents told Kashmir Reader that a 5.5 kilometer road stretch connecting Kranchu village with Chandhara is being blacktopped under PMGSY.
“The road is metalled after 20 years, we all villagers were quite happy but electric poles erected by PDD in the road is creating hurdles in blacktopping,” a resident of Krunchoo village, Bilal Ahmad said, demanding PDD authorities to shift the electric poles from the road before blacktopping.
“The road will be eroded if PDD officials delay the shifting of electric poles,” he said.
Mohammed Rajab Bhat, Sarpanch of Krunchoo, told Kashmir Reader that the road is scheduled to be blacktopped 24 feet in width.
“The R&B officials could blacktop 14 to 18 feet of road in width due to the presence of 8 electric poles,” he said.
He said at other places some persons resist to furnish their land for road widening.
“These people have some reservations which can be addressed by revenue authorities, who were requested to visit the spot and address their concerns,” he said.
Junior Engineer of PMGSY Parvaiz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that they had to acquire 24 feet wide road but they could only acquire 18 feet of land only to avoid demolition of residential houses.
“Many utilities including electric poles fall in the road, we have appealed to PDD department for shifting them but they didn’t take any action till date,” he said.
