Three people injured in bear attack at Handwara

HANDWARA: Three people including two women were injured in a black bear attack in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday morning.
Local people said that three people including two of them women were working in their field in Ananwan village of Kralgund Handwara on Saturday morning when a black bear jumped in the field and attacked them, the other people working at their fields just reached the spot and chased the beast with stones and sticks.
In this incident three people identified as Saja Begum wife of Ghulam Ahmad Rather, Ashia Begum wife of Abdul Hamid Rather and Bashir Ahmed Dar residents of Ananwan received the injuries. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, where all are said to be stable.
An official of the wildlife department said that they will install a cage in the area to catch the beast, however people are requested to cooperate. He appealed to people living close to forest and orchard areas not to venture outside alone mostly in morning and evening hours.
