Body of sand digger allegedly killed by opponents found in river Jhelum at Khanpora B’la

BARAMULLA: Police on Monday fished out the body of a person from river Jhelum who was allegedly killed by some sand mafia’s in Khawajabagh area of Baramulla on Friday night.
On Monday afternoon a team of Baramulla police along with local people of Khawaja Bagh spotted the body and retrieved it.
The body was identified as Bilal Ahmad Pandit of Khawajabagh Baramulla. It was found near the Khanpora area around five kilometres downstream from the Khawaja Bagh.
The police shifted the body to GMC Baramulla for examination and for further legal formalities, later they will hand over the body to family for last rites.
Earlier, the family and other people of Khawaja Bagh alleged that on Friday night some sand mafia’s from Chakla village murdered Bilal Ahmad and then threw him into the river Jhelum. They said that Bilal was extracting sand from the river but the sand mafia’s of Chakla from another side of river not allowing anyone to extract the sand from the river and they killed Bilal and threw his body into Jhelum.
Soon after the family staged a protest on Saturday, the teams of police, SDRF, and army had launched a search operation in the river and on Monday they retrieved the body.
Soon after police fishout the body, the large number of people of Khawaja Bagh again staged a protest and appealed to the police department and administration to investigate the incident and hang the people involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, sources said that Baramulla police held a few people of Chakla village for questioning and investigation.
