Calls for propagation of High Density rootstock in private sector to lower cost
SRINAGAR: Director General Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat on Saturday conducted an extensive tour of District Ganderbal and took stock of activities being carried out in Departmental Nurseries at Kralbagh, Wusen Tehsilbagh. He was accompanied by the Chief Horticulture Officer, Ganderbal and other officers/officials of the Department. He impressed upon the Chief Horticulture officer Ganderbal to make all out efforts in order to educate the general public about the modified High Density Programme, so that more and more growers come forward for adoption of the scheme, thus enhancing their income. He advised Chief Horticulture Officer Ganderbal to ensure the speedy multiplication of the rootstock of various fruit crops, so that the local growers will not feel any difficulty during plantation season.
The Director General expressed his satisfaction over the work being carried out in the Departmental Nurseries and stressed for further improvement in the work culture of the employees, in order to serve the public at the expected lines. He also appreciated the employees for the efforts put in by them towards the development of Departmental Nurseries.
During the visit the Director General had a detailed interaction with the growers of the area. He advised the growers to adopt modern technical instruments for carrying out farming activities, in order to save the labour and input cost. The Private Nursery growers were advised for plantation and multiplication of more and more of the apple and other High Density rootstock locally, so that the cost of fruit plants is reduced and are made available to the growers easily and at cheaper rates.
