Restoration, clearance of water bodies begins at Shopian

SHOPIAN: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control (I & FC) Shopian today organised a campaign to clear irrigation Khulls in the district.
The campaign was organised with active partnership from the local community to make the present irrigation season a great success.
The department on the occasion put its men and machinery along with the public on restoration/ clearance of water bodies work in Shopian including Vehiji Canal, Heff Branch, DI Branch of Zainpora Canal and Saidapora Badimarg.
Directions were also passed for carrying out demarcation of water bodies and identification of illegal constructions, besides measures taken for restoring and cleaning of all water bodies in the district.
The Ex. Engineer I&FC monitored the situation to speed up the restoration of the water bodies in Shopian.
With regard to demarcation of water bodies, directions were also passed to the concerned to expedite demarcation process of all water bodies immediately and to ensure identification of encroachments within these water bodies so that major anti encroachment drive is launched to remove all illegal constructions along water bodies in Shopian.
All necessary measures for cleaning the accumulated waste is aimed at restoring the glory of water bodies and make all water bodies navigable to restore the original water navigation circuit in Shopian district to pave the way for starting inland water transport along these bodies.
In this regard, community participation is must and local communities who are actual guardians have a vital role in identification of encroachments and in conservation of these historical water bodies.
