SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Women’s Wing President Adv. Shameema Firdous Thursday reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to empowering women in governance, politics and public service, underscoring the National Conference’s long-standing vision of fostering inclusive and progressive leadership at every level of society.
She made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the party’s District Presidents of the Kashmir Province at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha. Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri and Provincial Secretary Ayesha Jameel were also present.
The meeting featured detailed discussions on various organisational matters, including the ongoing public outreach programme. Adv. Shameema Firdous also reviewed preparations for the annual death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, which will be observed on July 11.
Addressing the meeting, Shameema Firdous said, “As we prepare to observe the annual death anniversary of Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, we pay tribute to a towering leader whose compassion, resilience and unwavering commitment to public service continue to inspire generations. Her life remains a shining example of selfless service, women’s empowerment and social justice. Granting women meaningful and influential roles in politics and public service is not merely a matter of representation; it is the foundation of a democratic and equitable society. Through initiatives such as the 33 per cent reservation for women in Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions, we are not only opening doors for women but also enabling them to lead and shape policy at the grassroots as well as legislative levels. The National Conference also played a pioneering role in reserving 50 per cent of seats for girls in government medical colleges.”
Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri highlighted the organisation’s ongoing initiatives saying, “Madar-e-Meharban Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah dedicated her life to serving the people, particularly the poor, the marginalised and women, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, courage and public welfare that continues to guide our efforts.”
