GDC Kalakote Celebrates day

Kalakote: EBSB Club in Collaboration with Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation committee and Red- Cross and Red-Ribbon club of GDC Kalakote,organised Intra-college online Essay writing competition along with poster-making and slogan writing competition,to celebrate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in Commemoration to , “ Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”. Since 1987, 26th June is observed as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.“Share Drug Facts toSave Lives” is the theme of the 2021 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking aimed to combat misinformation and encourage the exchange of drug facts from health hazards solutions to the global drug problem, to evidence-based prevention, rehabilitation, and aftercare. Thus, this year’s theme focuses upon creating awareness among the masses about the Ill-effects of Drugs abuse.GDC Kalakote organized these events to contribute its bit towards this path of creating awareness. The topic for the essay writing competition was, ‘Say no to Drugs- sound mind sound body’. While the slogan writing and poster making competition were organised on the themes, ‘The more you care, the more you live healthy’ and ‘ Drug addiction leads to Mental, social and economic challenges’respectively.Giving an overwhelming response, the students participated in all these three competitions with great fervor .The Judges for this event were, Prof. Priyanka Kumari (HOD Hindi), Dr. Mohd. Shakoor (HOD Urdu) and Dr.Naseer-ud-din Sofi(HOD English).The result will be declared after proper evaluation and the winners and the participating students will be awarded with E-Certificates. Speaking on the event through an online platform, Prof.Anayat -Ullah- Khan (ConvenerEBSB Club), highlighted the growing menace of Drug-Abuse in India and why we are supposed to stop it from further hollowing out our society. Taking this forward, Dr. Shezad Ahmed( Convener Red-Cross and Red-Ribbon club), emphasized on the fact that every step is crucial to prevent drug-abuse, so we should start creating awareness right from our home which will eventually lead us to create awareness in the whole society Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal GDC Kalakote, who graced this online event with his presence, interacted with the students and talked at length about the drug abuse as a social problem. He further added that, Substance abuse affects and costs the individual, the family, and the community in significant, measurable ways. Thus we should make every effort to prevent it from ruining lives in particular and society in general. At last, Dr. Gupta acknowledged the hard work of the organizing committees, co-operation of the faculty members and participation of the students for making this programme successful. The programme ended with a vote of thanks presented by, Prof. Marve Sofi (Convener Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation committee) through the online platform. She ended the programme with a quote by James Lee, “Recovery is an acceptance that your life is in shambles, and you have to change it.”
