Locals blame civic body for failing to keep Hajin town clean

Hajin: The residents of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have accused the Municipal authorities for failing to keep the town neat and clean.
The residents, while blaming the municipal authorities and local administration, said that a walk along the river banks,main roads once would revitalise a person and locals prefered to spend their leisure time in this healthy environment , but now the irresponsible residents and uncaring approach of Municipal committee Hajin have created a mess area.
A local shopkeeper Ahmad Showkat who runs a hosiery shop in the main market Hajin told Kashmir Reader that locals and some shopkeepers and nearby residents of the area are to be blamed for dumping the garbage and other waste on the embankments ,and main roads which give a foul smell.
To add to the problems,some shopkeepers are also pile up waste on main roads and which give foul smell during this summer and made the life hell for the residents
The locals said that inner,link and main roads remain unclean and no cleanliness drive is being carried by municipal authorities in the town .
They said the Municipal Committee Hajin and its employees never took a cleanliness drive in the area to keep the area clean nor were they cleaning the Jhelum embankments.
Another resident Mohammad Arif said that we fail to understand why municipal committee Hajin fails to keep the town clean ,if it falls within their jurisdiction ,No dustbin has been installed in the main market in which shopkeepers could have used for waste collection.
In summers foul smell is emanating from the waste accumulated on the embankments and municipal authorities not bothered to remove or act against the erring shopkeepers or the nearby residents under municipal law .He said
Deputy chairman Municipal Committee Waseem Parray told Kashmir Reader that soon dustbins will be distributed to every ward .
He added that sofar dustbins have distributed to ward no.1 and 2 and coming days will be provided to other remaining wards
Asked about the garbage being dumped on the roadside ,Waseem said that action will be initiated against the violators.
He further said a cleanliness drive is being conducted twice a day in the entire town.
