Vice-Chancellor SKUST inaugurated wheat field day at FOA Wadura

Srinagar: Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST- J&K, along with Director Extension and Registrar inaugurated Wheat Field Day at Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sopore.Mr. Mohd. Qasim Gaynee, Joint Director Agriculture(Extension) Department of Agriculture alongwith other field functionaries participated in the Wheat Field Day. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor was apprised about the research programmes being carried out at the Faculty and release of wheat variety SKUA, WW2 developed by SKUAST-K.The variety has yield potential of 38 qtls/hac and is resistant to rust and ready for harvest by 1st Week of June which can play a big role in benefiting the farmers by double cropping system.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Professor J.P. Sharma in his address highlighted the challenges farming community is facing regarding declining of agricultural land, water scarcity, inclement weather, climate changes, nutritional security and stressed upon the Scientists and researchers to find out the ways to overcome these to farmers profitability. He stressed the scientists and officers of the Development to concentrate upon strategies which will increase the farmers income, to reduce Post Harvest losses, conservation agriculture, precision agriculture, smart agriculture, climate resilient agriculture. It said that scientists and officials of line Departments should concentrate on efforts for converting Agriculture to Agriculture business by educating/training farmers regarding marketing, processing, labeling for increasing profitability among farmers. While concluding the day long visit Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated plantation Drive at Girls Hostel of Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura.
