KTA reiterates need for better care of Covid patients at SKIMS Bemina and JLNM hospitals

Srinagar: Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) reiterated the need for better management of Covid patients and demanded that administration should increase the number of oxygen and ICU beds available in the valley.
President KTA, Ajaz Shahdhar in a statement said that the covid patients admitted in SKIMS Bemina and JLNM hospital are facing lot of problems due to lack of proper management. He said that the Head of all Departments of SKIMS Bemina especially Chest Medicine, Medicine and Surgery should remain available daily in hospital triage which at present is mainly run by junior doctors.
He added that many covid patients are having significant comorbidities and need accurate and immediate assessment by these HODs. Their personal presence will not only lead to better patient care but will also encourage junior doctors as they find it difficult to take crucial decisions in their absence. The HODs should lead from front rather than limit themselves to ward rounds only. Shahdhar also expressed his concern regarding lack of proper administration at JLNM hospital as the present Medical Superintendent is having some health issues and the post of deputy MS is lying vacant since long.
JLNM hospital Srinagar , being a designated covid hospital of the District situated in the capital city there is a absence of strong administrative presence. Being located in the centre it caters to the capital and nearby areas too. There has been 15-20 deaths in a fortnight. The Medical Superintendent of the hospital is himself a covid sufferer and is on a oxygen support since last year. As a result, he is unable to discharge his function as MS . Deputy MS is lying vacant since long time.
In the current scenario of severe pandemic cases, things are in worse shape because of the absence of head of the institution loosening the administrative control more so the present in charge deputy is not in a position to cater to administrative/ medical capability to handle the situation. Against this backdrop it is the ardent need of the hour to have a head of the hospital having medical speciality along with administrative experience.
