Srinagar-Jammu highway to remain closed on Wednesdays

Srinagar: Traffic on the Srinagar to Jammu National Highway will remain shut on Wednesdays every week during April and May for carrying out repairs and maintenance works on the highway, an official order said.
Earlier, the only surface link connecting Kashmir to the rest of the world was usually closed for vehicular traffic on Friday every week. However, instead of Friday, the highway will remain closed for traffic movement on Wednesday for a period of two months.

The traffic department said that subject to fair weather and better road conditions, only one-way traffic shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu on Friday while adding that the Traffic Control Unit(TCU) Srinagar shall communicate with Traffic Control Unit(TCU) Ramban before releasing the traffic.
For Light Motor Vehicles(LMV’s), the department said that the vehicles shall be allowed from Zig(Qazigund) between 8 AM in the morning till 12 PM towards Jammu as no vehicle shall be allowed before and after this time-slot.
For High Motor Vehicles(HMV’s), “Only stranded vehicles between Nashree and Ramban shall be allowed towards Srinagar”, they added.
