Pampore: Tehsil Administration Pampore and Excise and Taxation Department hold sensitization programme at Tehsil office Pampore area of Pulwama district on Tuesday regarding how to check cultivation of poppy.
The meeting was held under the supervision Tehsildar Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi-ud-Din and Mohammed Shafeeq Taxation officer South Kashmir,
The meeting was attended by Naib Tehsildar Pampore Mohammad Ameen, Naib Tehsildar Khrew Bashir Ahmad, field staff of Tehsil office Pampore and Excise and Taxation department and a many Lambardar and Chowkidar of Pampore Tehsil.
” it was a sensitization programme for patwaris, chowkidars and lambardars against cultivation of cannabis and poppy ” Tehsildar Pampore told Kashmir Reader, adding that previously they used to carry drives for destroying standing poppy.
He added that this year they have clear directions from the government to warn and stop farmers from sowing poppy.
” Case under NDPS act will be initiated against farmers for sowing poppy or cannabis under which they can get imprisonment up to 15 years,” the Tehsildar said, adding they have directions from government to book persons who had sown poppy in their land last year under NDPS act.
The Tehsildar told Kashmir Reader that even action can be initiated against government employees if they conceal information about poppy/cannabis cultivation in their area.
The Tehsildar requested farmers from staying away from cultivation of poppy/cannabis.
Posters warning of strict action against NDPS act were distributed among lambardars and chowkidars for pasting in their areas.
