Wild animals continue to foray in human habitations

10 sheep mauled to death by a black bear in Handwara

Handwara: Now ten sheeps were mauled to death by a black bear in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The incident happened just a day after four domestic animals were attacked by a black bear in an Uri village.
Locals said that a black bear barged into the cow shed of Ghulam Mohammed Ahanger at Audoora Handwara on Monday night and killed at least ten sheep and injured several others before the beast was chased away by the people.
They said that it was the third time when black bears attacked domestic animals in the area.
The officials of the wildlife department, on the condition of anonymity, said it was the routine that wild animals are foraying into the residential areas in search of food.
On Monday at least four animals including two cows were attacked, leaving three others injured by black bear when the beast barged into the cow shed of a local in Babagale village of Uri in Baramulla district
