Dead crows, carcasses of 3 foxes found in Lolab

Kupwara: Days after officials declared bird flu in some areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara and Baramulla districts, panic again gripped the people of Lolab valley in Kupwara when several dead crows and three carcasses of foxes were spotted in the area.
Locals said that the dead crows were spotted in Gundmacher village of Lolab and the carcasses of three foxes were also spotted near the village.
Soon after the locals spotted these, they informed the district administration. A senior official of the district administration Kupwara said that a team of officials of animal husbandry has been sent to the area to ascertain the facts and for further investigation.
Dead crows were found in several parts of Kupwara last week and after their samples were tested, bird flu or avain influenza was confirmed in them. An alert was declared in the area. Meanwhile, a case of bird flu was also detected in a poultry farm in Old Town Baramulla.
