SHOPIAN: Bus stand Shopian has turned into a garbage dump as snow piled in its from the adjoining areas brought with it large chunks of garbage that now litter in this area.
The authorities during snow lifting from the town roads during winter, piled it at the bus stand , but forgot to clear the debris and garbage that was brought alongside with the snow.
Residents living around this bus stand said that this bus stand is now turning into a dumping site and has become a hub of stray dog, and the locals face problems due to these attacking people.
According to officials, lakhs of rupees were spent on the development of this bus cum cab stand which is now being used as a dumping site.
Heaps of garbage, plastic and other wastes are lying in the stand that has even squeezed the space for the vehicles.
Drivers said that they are being forced to operate from this stand but the same space is filled with garbage. They said that the government washroom in the stand is also blocked with this trash.
Executive officer municipal Committee Shopian, Muhammad Ismail told Kashmir Reader that they are removing the garbage for the bus stand. “It was used for the purpose when every nook and corner of town was blocked with heavy snow. It’s our property and soon we will remove the garbage,” he said.
