Woman drowns in LJHP canal in Uri, rescue operation on

Baramulla: A woman drowned into the Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric Power project (LJHP) water canal in Bimyar area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
According to locals a women Gulshan wife of Sajad Ahmad Najar either jumped or fell into the canal on Tuesday morning. Soon after the information the teams of police along with local fishermen reached the spot and started a rescue operation; however they could not find her till afternoon.
In the afternoon the authorities even diverted water supply of the project towards the river Jhelum to help them trace her with the teams of army and police also joining in, however they could not fish her out when last reports came in.
Some locals said that women jumped into the canal while officials yet not confirm.
“Our first priority is to trace the body, later we will investigate it” a police official said.
