Police kick starts road safety month by organising events in Pampore, Awantipora

AWANTIPORA: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday organised two functions in Awantipora Police district on the inaugural day of road safety month.
Police Pampore and Awantipora distributes pamphlets containing road safety tips in an inaugural event of National Road Safety, police said.
Pamphlets regarding road safety tips were distributed at two places in Pampore and Awantipora along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
While talking to Kashmir Reader SSP Awantipora, Tahir Saleem, informed that one event was held at Kachkoot Toll Plaza by SDPO Awantipora, Aijaz Ahmad Choudhary and SHO Awantipora, Mohammad Younis and other at Galander Crossing Pampore by SDPO Pampore, Imtiyaz Ahmad, SHO Pampore,Manzoor Ahmad and Inspector Adil Ahmad.
“National Road Safety Month started today vide Government of India notification No. RT-25029/01/2020-RS dated 17 December 2020 to observe National Road Safety Month from 18 January 2021 to 17 February 2021,” he told Kashmir Reader, adding that a large chunk of National Highway falls under the jurisdiction of Awantipora.
“Most deaths in the world occur not by disease or terrorism but by road accidents so it becomes necessary to create awareness among people concerning safe driving,” he said, adding that it was with this mission they provided pamphlets to drivers.
“The motive was to help drivers in understanding various road signs and also counsel them on need to drive safely,” he told Kashmir Reader.
He added hoarding containing messages on safe driving was also erected.
He said that they are planning to counsel Sumo drivers on need of safe driving in coming days at various stands.
The Awantipora to Pampore stretch of Srinagar-Jammu national highway observe road accidents routinely. During previous year 73 road accidents were recorded in Awantipora and Pampore area in which some people were killed and many others were injured, police said.
