Srinagar: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police on Sunday achieved another major success by apprehending three drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag and Awantipora, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances.
In Anantnag, a police party of Police Station Achabal during naka checking at Kanganhal intercepted and apprehended Zubair Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone, a resident of Tailwani, and recovered 1.7 kgs of Ganja powder-like substance from his possession.
In another operation, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara during naka checking at Doodhnaad, Waghama, apprehended Imran Nazir Dass, son of Nazir Ahmad Dass, a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara. Another accused, Irshad Ahmad Dass, son of Ghulam Hassan Dass, also a resident of Waghama, managed to flee from the spot, and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused. During search, police recovered two bags containing 7.1 kgs of poppy straw from the spot.
In Awantipora, a police party led by SHO Police Station Khrew, during naka checking at Monpora Crossing, intercepted and apprehended Saqib Bashir Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Khanmoh, Srinagar, and recovered 3.21 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been taken up.
Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and appealed to the public to continue extending their cooperation by sharing information regarding drug trafficking or peddling.
