AIIMS road widening: 17 structures razed in demolition drive at Awantipora

AWANTIPORA: District Administration Pulwama on Monday conducted a massive demolition drive to clear the encroachments and illegal constructions on the AIIMS road Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The drive was headed by Deputy Commissioner Dr Raghav Langer, who was accompanied by ADC Awantipora Zaffar Hussain Shawl, Tehsildar Awantipora Mohammad Maqbool, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Awantipora, police and other officers and officials of concerned departments.
During the drive seventeen structures on the AIIMS road were razed to ground including a shopping complex, few houses and shops and a hostel.
The district administration has carried out a mega drive for road widening of AIIMS Road in Awantipora.
Construction within 110 feet of AIIMS road has been prohibited.
The district administration has already advised the people to remove encroachments on their own otherwise strict action would be initiated against them. The officials said strict action will be taken against the offenders who have raised illegal constructions along the AIIMS road.
Tehsildar Awantipora Mohammad Maqbool told Kashmir Reader that various structures which were falling under Section 4 and section 31 were demolished.
“Under Municipal Act 2010, the concerned executive officer already served them notices, the structures had been built without permission,” he said , adding that the demolition was carried out for widening of AIIMS Road.
