Rs 4,400 fine realised during anti-smoking drive in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: The Department of Drugs and Food Control Organisation (DD&FCO) today recovered a fine of Rs 4400 from offenders found smoking at public places during an anti-smoking drive in and around major hospital premises of district Srinagar.
The special drive was conducted by a team of officers headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar to implement Section 4 of Cigarette and other Tobacco Product Act and covered hospitals including SMHS, Super Speciality Hospital, Lalla Ded and G. B. Panth.
Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Shakeel ur Rahman has directed the enforcement officers to strictly implement the provisions of COTPA and has appealed to the general public to desist from smoking as it adversely impacts the health of active as well as passive smokers.
