Militant, four OGWs held in Kupwara: Police

Kupwara: Police on Tuesday claimed that they held an active militant and four over ground workers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, who were involved in trading arms and ammunition to militants.
Police said that acting on credible information about cross-LoC smuggling of the large quantity of weapons by militant associates, a joint operation was carried out Monday night by police, Army’s 28 RR and 162 battalion CRPF. It said the joint operation successfully culminated in the arrest of a local militant Pervaiz Ahmad Bhat, 22, son of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat of Lalpora.
Police said that one AK-47 rifle and a 9mm Chinese pistol with magazines were recovered from his possession during the search operation.
They said four other militant associates were apprehended for involvement in “smuggling of weapons” for Hizbul Mujahideen in the area. They were identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir (35) of Hajibal Narizeb Kalaroos, Ghulam Mohammad Kohli (35) of Warnnow Lolab, Nizam Din Gujjar (44) of Gujjarpati Bandipora, and Abdul Qayoom Gujjar (29) of Khenura Bandipora.
