Beerwah traders, civil society members protest over shortage of staff at sub-district hospital

BUDGAM: Youth Civil Society Beerwah and Traders Federation Beerwah on Friday held a protest demonstration against the health department and district administration Budgam for attachments of the doctors and paramedical staff of the Sub-district hospital of Beerwah to the other places for a COVID-19 duty.
These protesters assembled here in the premises of the Tahsildar office and chanted the slogans “ We want our doctors and paramedical staff back to the hospital” and “ We want justice”.
The protesting members from the civil society and traders federation told Kashmir Reader that the government is strengthen the health care system across the Kashmir valley to fight Covid-19 , but in the sub district hospital Beerwah , the doctors and paramedical staff have been attached to the different places for the Covid-19 duty thus decreasing the man powers of the doctors and paramedical staffers in the hospital.
Farooq Ahmad Wani, one of the members of the traders federation Beerwah said that the attachments of the Medical and paramedical staff of the hospital to the other places in this pandemic situation will affect the health care system in the area.
“The government has increased the manpower of doctors and paramedical staffers in other hospitals, but in the sub-district hospital Beerwah it is contrary and we have now a lesser staff,” he said.
“21 doctors and 20 paramedical staff medical have been attached to other places. This is only hospital in the sub district Beerwah , with people from the adjoining areas are coming for the treatment purpose,” said Tariq Bhat, Secretary of the Youth civil society Beerwah
“There are nearly 100 villages which are fully dependent upon this hospital, the attachment of the medical and paramedical to other places will directly impact the patient care and patients will also face problems mostly those from far-flung areas of the Beerwah to the hospital.
When contacted chief Medical officer Budgam, Doctor Tajamul told Kashmir Reader that the government has provided the COVID hospital for the District Budgam at Chanapora that was designated by the divisional commissioner Kashmir for the district.
“To follow the proper SOPs, we have deputed the staff to that place, so that we can run a dedicated COVID hospital for district Budgam at PHC Chanpora. Since there is a rise of COVID positive cases in the district and taking into consideration the deaths the hospital has been taken by the department of the health and Chief Medical officer,” He said
Doctor Tajamul said that the COVID patients, especially the pregnant ladies are properly treated in the hospital, for that reason the staff have been taken from the entire district as an internal adjustment. The topography of the district is such that we cannot designate any hospital for COVID hospital that is why central place Chanapora has been designated that is nearest to the other hospitals of Srinagar.
Adding that other hospitals are functioning properly in the entire district, where proper treatment is provided to the other patients,” Dr. Tajamul said.
