While addressing the meeting Kamal said that the quandary the economy of J&K is finding itself in right now is an outcome of the mess which has been festering since 2015, compounded by the post August 5, 2019 measures and subsequent COVID-19 induced lock down.
Ruing the failure of the government towards ensuring safety and security of residents Kamal said, “Government has failed to give a sense of security to people, on one hand we see a steep rise in the death of civilians during gun battles, and on the other hand there is no respite from killings as well. Every now and then we see political workers being killed and the incidents being left unaccounted for. One fails to understand which normalcy government is talking about. The government is reticent on civilian killings and other human rights violations. Scores of political activists, legal luminaries are still languishing in jails. Those who were released are still not being allowed to move out from their homes. There is no semblance of peace and tranquility on the ground. Youth in particular has been a primary target of government’s retribution in the form of discriminatory domicile rules,” he said.
Underscoring the awful consequences of the unconstitutional measures taken by the incumbent ruling dispensation on 5th of august last year, Mohammad Akbar Lone said, “Nothing substantial has so far been achieved by GOI through the measures undertaken on 5th of august last year, the measures have only increased the suffering of people and jeopardized the supreme interests of the country. Not just Kashmiris, the people of Jammu too are raising their concerns and protesting against the measures that were taken since the state was robbed off its unique status.”
