Tral Gujjar villagers protest against inflated power bills

PAMPORE: The residents from many Gujjar villages staged a protest in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against the Power Development Department (PDD) for sending them inflated power bills.
The protesting residents from Bhatnoor, Karmulla, Gulshanpora, Naristan, Sathoora and villages assembled near the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral and protested against PDD for shooting them with inflated power bills.
” We use a single lamp for lighting only, we don’t use any other electronic gadgets for power consumption, each household would get a monthly bill for rupees 108,” the residents said.
” After the lockdown the PDD to our shock shot us monthly power bills for Rs 350, which is an “open injustice with us,” they said.
They residents said they live in mud huts and were rendered jobless for the past three months due to lockdown.
The residents said that they will be not in a position to pay these inflated electricity bills.
They demanded authorities to adjust their bills at the rate of rupees 108 per month .
Assistant Executive Engineer Tral, Mohammad Maqbool said that they were ascertaining the load availed by the residents of Gujjar basti and will look in their grievance.
