Pig spotted in an Uri graveyard, killed

Baramulla: A pig was killed by the locals outside a grayeyard in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday evening after it was found roaming in a local graveyard, with rsidensts wondering how this animal reached thearea.
Local sources said that some people spotted a unique animal roaming in a local graveyard in Boniyar, area of Uri Baramulla on Sunday evening close to the Baramulla Uri road and they just inform it to other people.
They said later some other people including some youngsters reached the spot and identify the animal as pig. They said the animal took shelter inside an old grave but he was chased and then killed by people outside the graveyard.
The local people of the area wondered and said that they never found such animal in the area, and it is first time when they saw the animal in area. They appealed administration to eridicate the population of such animals at the arliest so that they will not create problem in future.
They said the animal was trying to dig the fresh graves in the to reachout to any human remains.
In the past a a pig was found in a Handwara village and from the time it was not found anywhere in region.
People appealed the administration to check the facts how these animals reached the area where many sightings are now being reported.
A senior police officer said that it was group of pigs in the area inwhich one was killed by some unidentified locals while some escaped towards the nearby forests.
Range officer wildlife department Uri Altaf Ahmad Koul confirm that animal was a pig and not a wild boar. He said this is not a single animal, we saw groups of such animal in Rafiabad, Kupwara, Uri and Boniyar, and their population is increasing. He said a team of wildlife officials has been sent to the area to dispose off the animal body
He said we already informed government about their increasing population, and steps to curb their population
Koul said they remain hopeful that administration will soon act on their reports.
