SRINAGAR : The department of Legal Metrology intensified its market inspections and booked 45 erring traders for violating Legal Metrology laws. The department received 17 complaints from the consumers during the current month for over-charging on sanitizers and facemasks by the drug, grocery stores and cooking gas dealers. The complaints regarding use of false weights, short-weighments by vegetable vendors were also received by the department. Notably, the Government has notified surgical masks and hand-sanitizers as essential commodities and has fixed a price of Rs 100 for 200 ml sanitizer (packaged) and Rs. 16 for 3 ply surgical mask (each piece), containing a layer of Melt Blown non-woven Fabric. An amount of Rs. 30,900/-was recovered as fine from the erring traders which include 13 Drug store, 17 Vegetable Seller, 5 Milkmen, 3 LPG Home delivery vans , 4 Grocery Stores and 3 other shop keepers.
