Masks, sanitisers being blackmarketed: RTI Movement

SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement (RTIM) on Wednesday alleged that many chemists in Kashmir are black-marketing mouth masks and hand sanitisers “with the result people are facing lots of difficulties during the ongoing coronavirus crises”. In a statement, RTI Movement chairman Dr Raja Muzaffar said that people across Jammu & Kashmir especially Kashmir valley are complaining shortage of mouth masks and hand sanitisers. “In Srinagar , Budgam , Anantnag , Kupwara , Baramulla and many other towns mouth masks , hand sanitisers and even surgical gloves are being sold on exorbitant rates by many chemists. A mask which costs Rs 10 or 15 is sold at the rate of Rs 30 to 40 per piece. Same is the case with hand sanitizers which are sold at a very high price and nobody knows its efficacy. These items are sold like hot cakes at very exorbitant prices and the authorities on the other hand are not making proper surprise visits to this illegal hoarding . I appeal Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole to take a strong notice of this,” said Dr Raja Muzaffar RTI Movement also requested Deputy Commissioners , SDM’s , Tehsildars and Food and Drug Control Department officials to take the erring chemists to task who are found black-marketing mouth masks and hand sanitizers which have been declared as essential commodities by Government of India in a recent order.
