Jio tower in Shopian village a non-starter

SHOPIAN: Jio tower at Pargochi village in district Shopian is a non-starter for last two years with people saying they face connectivity issues due to lack of network. According to locals, Reliance Jio initiated construction of tower in the village by the end of 2018 after huge demand from public. They said that work on the tower was started by the beginning of 2019, but despite that the tower has not been commissioned yet. Locals informed that almost 90 per cent of population in the area have opted for Jio service, but despite that they face immense connectivity problems.

“We pay costly bills. But in return we get no connectivity,” Basit Ahmad, a local said. Locals said that almost every subscriber of Jio from the area brought the issue into the notice of the company, but the tower was not made operational. “We contacted the company many times through customer care executives and supervisors and also called engineers – but they often give 180 days-time or 220 days-time for the solution of our problems,” another local said, adding that such promises are going from last three years. Locals said that after the launch of company in 2016, the area used to receive good network, but soon after the surge in connections, the coverage of nearby towers was reduced which resulted in connectivity woes.
