MeT predicts more snow, rains in Valley

Srinagar: Upper reaches in the Valley on Tuesday experienced fresh snow while rains lashed plains including Srinagar bringing down mercury.
After a week-long dry weather, higher reaches of north Kashmir including Gulmarg, hills of Uri, Handwara, Kupwara and Bandipora received fresh snowfall from Tuesday morning.
An official in Gulmarg said that the tourist resort received two to three inch fresh snowfall from the morning while the upper reaches including Afarwat and Kangdori hills received five to six inch fresh snowfall.
Director Metrological department (MeT) Sonam Lotus told Kashmir Reader that another spell of light to moderate snowfall and heavy rainfall were expecting in Kashmir from Tuesday night till February 13.
He said that plains in Jammu would also receive rains during this period and the main activity of this spell would be on February 12.
According to him, weather was likely to improve from the afternoon of February 13.
“The wet spell is expected to bring end to the cold wave which Kashmir has been reeling for last several weeks,” he said.
He said while adding that the intensity of this spell will be low however it lead disturbance in road traffic it.
As per the traffic department official, one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Jammu would be allowed on the highway today.
