2 Uri families shift after mudslide threat, express anger over lack of admin support

BARAMULLA: Two families of Zamboor Patan in Uri have been shifted to their relatives after mudslide threat and shooting stones in the area they live in.
Families say that the government in 2015 asked them to shift the dwellings to safer nearby areas and promised some compensation. “However, nothing was done and we have to shift of our own, and those who were left behind face an eminent treat of getting buried under the mountain debris,” they said.
“Heavy snow could trigger mud slide any time and we decided to shift to our relatives home,” said one of the family members.
According to them four houses were buried in mudslide in 2015 – “after which the government proposed to shift us to different locations, but a proper follow-up was never carried to achieve this permanent move of the village houses,” they said.
